Yalitza Aparicio responds to comments about her English
YouTuber 'Superholly' talked about the Mexican star's English after her participation in Hijas de brujas was described as "perfect".
YouTuber 'Superholly,' known on her channel for teaching correct English pronunciation to Spanish speakers, recently commented on the English of Oaxacan actress Yalitza Aparicio.
The influencer, who has lived all her life between the United States and Mexico, found an article that described the actress' English as "perfect" in her role in the short film Hijas de brujas, so she was interested in making a video of her reaction to hearing Yalitza speak the language.
What surprised the YouTuber during the short film, was that the lines Yalitza says in English are very brief and are read, which don't gauge her fluency. 'Superholly' then does an exhaustive search on the internet for Yalitza speaking English, but is unable to find any other instances. Given this, the influencer deduced that, althoigh Yalitza understands English quite well, she is not yet comfortable conversing in the language.

In response, Aparicio made a video in reaction to the YouTuber's comments.
"The effort is made, but it costs a lot. As they say, it takes time. It's a process and to speak perfect English, I don't think so. Not right now, not really," said Yalitza.
The Oscar-nominated actress said that before she started acting she didn't speak English, and also, being a shy person, the situation is a little complex.
"The truth is very complicated, and the fact that you have a camera, an audience and everything that was there at the time, makes you more nervous. I start watching these videos and I don't know how I did it," Aparicio explained.
Aparicio achieved stardom when she debuted as Cleo in the film Roma, directed by Alfonso Cuarón, and according to TIME magazine, Yalitza became one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2019.
