Mexican actress Eiza González was thrilled on May 30 to learn that she is one of the top five highest-grossing stars in Hollywood today. In fact, she has become the industry's top-grossing Latino woman in the last year. According to a report by The Numbers, González is fifth on a list of the top-grossing stars in 2021 and the previous two years.

"This goes pa' my Mexicans and Latinos. Because we deserve to be seen. And thanks to you for the support because you are the ones who go to the movies," she wrote on Twitter. The actress was much more positive about the statements she made last week about the pressure she feels under in the industry being a woman and a Latina. 

The Mexican actress is fifth on the list behind Samuel L. Jackson, who leads the list, Tom Holland, Liam Neeson and Will Smith. This list recognizes the box office success of actors and actresses over time. A score is generated based on the income that the films in which the actors and actresses participate obtain in the last 3 years. 

On Instagram, she recalled the "number of times" she cried when she heard, "over and over again," that a woman of Latino origin, or "any stereotype related" to her could not be a leading lady, but it did not discourage her and she continued to believe in herself.

According to The Numbers, the last seven films Gonzalez starred in grossed $1,442 million, $1,125,494,000 worldwide. 

"To me it's a moment I never thought I would see. This is for my people, the Mexicans. Latinos always believe."

Although the opportunity gap between actresses and actors in the industry has often been a sour point, Margot Robbie, Brien Larson, Karen Gillan and Lupita Nyong'o follow González in the top 10 of the list of highest-grossing actors.
