In its attempt to continue adding content created by and for Latin Americans, Netflix has added a new docu-series within the 'true crime' genre to its extensive catalog.

Last week, Netflix released Elize Matsunaga: Once Upon a Crime, a Brazilian documentary series that tells the true story of a bloody crime that rocked the country almost 10 years ago.

In 2012, Elize Matsunaga killed and dismembered her husband, a powerful and wealthy businessman. She then disposed of the body in several backpacks.

It is said that a possible extramarital affair may have been the trigger for this fateful outcome. Nine years after the murder, Matsunaga testifies for the first time on camera in the making of the documentary. Eliza Capai, director of the documentary, seeks to explain what happened and provide answers to the ex-couple's relatives.

The series has four, one-hour episodes, that show Elize's story as objectively as possible. As a consequence of a failed relationship, the crime that marked her life forever and for which she was sentenced to 19 years in prison was unleashed.

In the docu-series, the testimonies of the people who were near the scene of the crime are collected, and it exclusively features the testimony of the perpetrator, who tells what were her motivations to commit the crime.

"I still can't say what kind of emotion made me pull the trigger," said Elize.
