The First Latina Fortnite Icon
Puerto Rico's María 'Chica' López is the first Latina gamer to join the well-known Fortnite Icon Series.
“I am very proud of not only being a content creator, but also my identity as a Puerto Rican LGBTQIA+ woman. I wanted my set in Fortnite to be true and clear as I am. I've been able to build an amazing community within the Fortnite family and I can't wait to share my set with everyone. I am excited to be the first Latina to join the Icon Series," said María 'Chica' López in a statement.
"Being a woman from Puerto Rico in the LGBTQIA+ community, I am very proud of my identity," she added in an interview.
Joining the well-known Fortnite Icon Series marks a milestone for the community of Latino gamers and content creators in the United States, Canada and other Spanish-speaking countries.
Starting this week, the Puerto Rican streamer will join other celebrities who have their own accessory and clothing lines — taken from the real world to the digital — in Fortnite. Among the other stars to take part are: Colombian singer J. Balvin, gamer and influencer Ninja, Australian influencer Loserfruit, the Spanish streamer TheGrefg, the Japanese tennis player Naomi Osaka, American basketball player Lebron James, and Brazilian soccer player Neymar.
“The Chica outfit has five different styles. In addition to the default style, it includes the Prismatic Ghost, Royal Ghost, Sunglasses, and Huntress Mask styles. Included with the Chica outfit is the Chica Star backpack accessory, which also comes in the alternate Royal Specter style. The Spear of Aida pickaxe will also be coming to the item shop, allowing to wield the power of love and joy. This pickaxe also has the Royal Specter alternate style,” Epic Games announced in a statement.
