The Gold Medal of the Spanish Film Academy is awarded to a large group of Latin American  actresses and actors for "having enriched cinematography with their talent, and being a mirror for many Spanish actors and actresses in which to look at themselves", according to the statement released by the Board of Directors of the Spanish Academy. 

Among the Latin American artists who have been part of unforgettable films for the seventh art in Spanish in recent decades are: Silvia Pinal, Ricardo Darín, Jorge Perugorría, Gael García Bernal, Diego Luna, Óscar Martínez, Héctor , Ernesto and Malena Alterio, Leonardo Sbaraglia, Darío Grandinetti, Miguel Ángel Solá, Norma Aleandro, Pablo Echarri, Pepe Soriano, Norman Briski, Leticia Brédice, Gastón Pauls, Mirtha Ibarra, Óscar Isaac, Daniel Giménez Cacho, Ana de Armas, Salma Hayek , Vladimir Cruz, Demián Bichir, Benicio del Toro, Juana Acosta, Alfredo Castro, Luis Alberto García, Graciela Borges, Patricia Reyes Spíndola, Paulina García, Daniel Fanego, Mercedes Morán, Diego Peretti, Soledad Villamil, and Eduardo Blanco.

The list of artists recognized by the Spanish Academy continues with: Guillermo Francella, Micaela Nevárez, María Isabel Díaz, Alberto Ammann, Yleana Wilson, Cristina Rota, Juan Diego Botto, María Botto, Juan Carlos Corazza, Daniel Freire, Edgar Ramírez, Chino Darín, Angie Cepeda, Rosie Perez, Cecilia Suárez, José María Yazpik, María Conchita Alonso, Natalia Verbeke, Susú Pecoraro, Daniel Hendler and the remembered María Félix, Federico Luppi, Luis Politti, Analía Gadé, Walter Vidarte, Ulises Dumont, Ofelia Angélica, among others.

The Spanish Film Academy has valued the figure and trajectory of each one of those above mentioned, their different accents and their different cultures; and has chosen as representatives to receive the award, the Argentine Cecilia Roth and the Cuban Jorge Perugorría. The gala will be held in April, although the date is still to be determined.

Actress Roth is close to Spain cinema. Considered a muse of Pedro Almodóvar, she has worked with this director eight times. One of those times she has been in “Todo sobre mi madre”, which has led her to win the Goya award for Best Leading Actress. The Argentine won the same award for her role in the film “Martín (Hache)” by Adolfo Aristarain.

The Cuban Perugorría, for his part, is considered the most international face of the island's cinema. He has co-starred in “Fresa y Chocolate”, the first Cuban feature film to be nominated for an Oscar.
