Blonde boldly reimagines the complicated life of icon Marilyn Monroe. Blurring the lines of fact and fiction, the film cleverly explores the tension between her public and private lives,” reads the Netflix synopsis of a new biopic about the iconic actress and model.

The film Blonde will be based on the well-known novel by American author Joyce Carol Oates about Marilyn Monroe. This bestseller, published in 2020, is a fictional biography about the career of Norma Jeane Baker, historically known in the entertainment industry as Marilyn Monroe.

“I read Joyce’s novel, studied hundreds of photographs, videos, audio recordings, films — anything I could get my hands on. Every scene is inspired by an existing photograph. We’d pore over every detail in the photo and debate what was happening in it. The first question was always, ‘What was Norma Jeane feeling here?’ We wanted to tell the human side of her story. Fame is what made Marilyn the most visible person in the world, but it also made Norma the most invisible,” Spanish-Cuban actress Ana de Armas told Netflixqueue. She will play Monroe in the new Netflix biopic.

"We wanted to tell the human side of her story. Fame is what made Marilyn the most visible person in the world, but it also made Norma the most invisible,” added the Latina who, throughout her artistic career, had been cast in films like No Time to Die and Deep Water.

The script of the movie was written by Andrew Dominik, who is also directing the feature film. In this production, Dominik wanted to explore the public side of one of America's icons, and the more intimate, human, and unknown side of her.

“I was really lucky to have Ana because she could just do anything. She was so good. She would get there so quickly. Her feelings were just so under her skin, and anything I said to her, she really understood. The scenes would always just come to life because Ana was there,” the director said.

In addition to de Armas, the cast of Blonde includes Adrien Brody, Bobby Cannavale, Julianne Nicholson, Xavier Samuel, Evan Williams. Caspar Phillipson, Toby Huss. Sara Paxton, David Warshofsky, Evan Williams, Jr. Xavier Samuel, Garret Dillahun, Scoot McNairy, Lucy DeVito, Michael Masini, Spencer Garrett, Chris Lemmon, Rebecca Wisocky, Ned Bellamy, and Dan Butler.

Plan B, Brad Pitt’s production company, produced the film.

The movie about Marilyn's life will premiere worldwide exclusively on the Netflix on Sept. 23.
