People's music consumption habits have changed so much in the last decade that now, many are rated depending on the amount of listens or views one gets on social media. Through YouTube, thousands of personalized radios are created by users every minute of every day as they stream their favorite songs.

But some songs reach a more widespread appeal and enter rarified Internet air as they reach the billion-view club.

In 2012 the South Korean rapper Psy first crossed that line, followed three years later by Justin Bieber and American classics like "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "November Rain."

Now, Los Ángeles Azules closed the year 2020 as the only Latin band to have two videos reach one billion views.

The first video to hit the mark was "Nunca es suficiente" alongside Natalia Lafourcade, and the most recent is "Mis sentimientos" with Ximena Sariñana.

The band is known for keeping the flame of Mexican symphonic cumbia alive for over 40 years, founded in the 80s by four of eight brothers from the Mejia Avante Family.

After a humble beginning, they reached popularity some 15 years after starting the album Sin Pecado in June 1995. The following year they went platinum in Argentina with Inolvidables.

In the past decades, the group has deepened its musical production, working the cumbia and collaborating on singles with artists like Ha*Ash, Gloria Trevi, Julieta Venegas, and the multi-award winner Natalia Lafourcade.

From these efforts was also born the collaboration with Ximena Sariñana on "Mis sentimientos," which was nominated for several Latin Grammys and part of the successful album, Cómo te voy a Olvidar.

The album achieved Double Diamente, Triple Platino and remained number one in Mexico for six years.

Despite the passage of time, the song has continued to export cumbia intensely throughout 2020. Both videos show the band performing together and Sariñana's section was recorded in Estudios Churubusco, Mexico City, with lyrics by Jorge Medía Avante and arrangements by Odilón Chávez.

"Mis sentimientos" also has more than 110 million listens on Spotify.

The success of the videos is partly why Billboard magazine recognized Los Ángeles Azules as Banda Iberoamérica 2020.

In response, the band thanked their fans for all the achievement.

"Thanks to all the public and our fans for all the support they have given us since the release of the album and also a special recognition to the symphony that accompanied us on this journey. A thousand thanks to everyone for this achievement. From Iztapalapa to the world," they released.
