After two years of innovating to reach new audiences through presentations that combined in-person and digital channels, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Bogotá returns to perform on stages around the world. Between April 20 and April 28, it will attend a prestigious Festival led by the renowned Swedish composer Tommie Haglund, which will take place in the cities of Halmstad, Malmö, Linköping and Falkenberg.

"There are two ways to bring orchestras to life, recording music and touring the world," commented Joachim Gustafsson, principal conductor of the the Philharmonic Orchestra of Bogotá, recognized as one of the most versatile of his generation, and who will be presiding over the orchestra's concerts at the 2022 Tommie Haglund International Festival.

Apart from the main orchestra, there are some chamber ensembles that are integrated by musicians of the same orchestra and these ensembles also had rehearsals and preparation concerts to be part of the important tour with all the concerts that will be performed.

"This tour is an act of optimism and celebration," said David García, general director of the Orchestra, who led the Philharmonic Orchestra to make non-stop music in a context of the pandemic.

The Philharmonic Orchestra of Bogotá stands out for its versatility and for combining a deep commitment at the local level by making a permanent presence in all the neighborhoods and localities of the capital city, with the possibility of reaching the world stages that have been the cradle of symphony music.

A concert for the victims

On April 8, in commemoration of the National Day of Memory and Solidarity with the Victims of the Armed Conflict, the Philharmonic Orchestra gave a concert in which Colombian music was performed in the central square of the National University.

The concert was led by Joachim Gustafsson, chief musical director, and Rubián Zuluaga, assistant musical director, and toured the country.

"La Paz awakens enthusiasm for the Philharmonic Orchestra of Bogotá. We are pleased to return to the National University and reiterate the message that a better country is possible," said the general director.
