It not a secret that  biking is Philadelphia’s favorite form of  transportation. You just need to take a quick look around to realize  the city has the largest number of bike commuters in the nation (among the cities with more than 1 million inhabitants). However — and despite the huge number of bike commuters in the city — it  is not a secret that Philadelphia isn’t as bike-friendly  as it should be. So, why are people still choosing bikes over other types of transportation?

The reasons of why Philadelphians are so into biking have been compiled in The Philadelphia Bike Story, the documentary by Street Films that asks just those questions of Alex Doty, the executive director of the Bike Coalition of Greater Philadelphia.

The most popular reasons? It’s cheaper, more convenient, Philly is flat... The proximity between work and home is another  factor people  take into account. And now, of course, there’s also the  new bike-share system.
