A new shooting shocks Colorado. On Monday afternoon a man entered a supermarket where he began shooting, leaving 10 people dead, including the first police officer who arrived on the scene after responding to a call about gunshots and someone carrying a rifle. The officer managed to help shoppers and workers find a safe area. At the moment the only suspect has been detained according to authorities.

The unfortunate event occurred at the King Soopers supermarket in a shopping plaza in south Boulder.  The motives that led the suspect to open fire out of nowhere are still unknown, according to witnesses to the shooting. Dozens of police vehicles and three helicopters rushed to the area of the shooting. "The entire building is surrounded, you must surrender," an officer communicated through a megaphone from outside the supermarket.

The terrified supermarket customers and employees managed to flee through a rear loading dock and some took refuge in nearby stores. Authorities are not yet releasing the identities of the victims of this attack as they continue to notify their families. However they have revealed that the officer killed was Eric Talley, 51, who had been with the Boulder police since 2010.

Investigators had just begun sorting through the crime scene and conducting witness interviews, said Boulder County District Attorney Michael Dougherty.

To find a motive, the investigation will work in conjunction with local, state and federal agencies.

This attack is the seventh mass murder so far this year in the United States. Colorado Governor Jared Polis said in a statement, "Today we have seen the face of evil. I mourn with my community and with all Coloradans."
