This year marks the 20th anniversary of the death of Tejano music star Selena.
To honor her, the city of Corpus Christi, Texas will hold a two-day celebration in April called "Fiesta de la Flor."
The festival will be held April 17-18 and will feature well-known Tejano musicians like Los Lobos and AB Quintanilla y Los Kumbia King Allstarz, a screening of the biopic “Selena”, local food vendors and more.
The Corpus Christi city council approved the festival last week. City officials report that they are expecting around 50,000 visitors for the event.
In 2005, a benefit concert, Selena ¡VIVE!, was held at the Reliant Stadium in Houston, TX in honor of the 10th anniversary of her death. More than 70,000 people attended the concert, while the telecast of the concert achieved a record-breaking 35.9 household rating. It became the most viewed Spanish-language special in U.S. history, according to Univision.
