Last Dec. 22, the Oscar Román Gallery, located in Lomas de Chapultepec in Mexico City, was robbed of $250,000 worth of art. Among the nine pieces of art stolen were sculptures and paintings belonging to artists Leonora Carrington, Javier Marin, Jorge Marin, Chucho Reyes, and Jazzamoart.

Regarding the robbery, Oscar Román, owner of the gallery, said that after being contacted at the gallery by a new client, they agreed to take the works 'to be seen.' In other words, they agreed to take and present the pieces to the residence of the potential buyer, something that has become more common during the pandemic.

They agreed to meet on the Dec. 22 at 11:30 a.m., on Sierra Vertientes Street. Román was escorted by an assistant from the gallery and the driver of the van, which was also owned by the gallery.

When they arrived at the place, two armed men approached, and got Román and company out of the van and took it, along with their phones and the artworks.

According to what he told Revista Clase, after a few meters, they were able to get the phones back, and the van appeared in another state. Román and his companions approached the police to file a complaint and later, the Public Ministry Agency.

The owner of the Gallery published some photos of the stolen art pieces on their social media , calling on people close to art to be careful when selling any work of art, and to be on the lookout if they saw the stolen art pieces in any underground sales space or portals.
