Fletcher Street Urban Riding Club, is an oasis in the midst of one of North Philadelphia’s rougher neighborhoods. The mission of the riding club is to keep alive Philadelphia’s tradition of ‘Urban cowboys’, whilst keeping children out of trouble and off the streets. By taking care of the horses, cleaning the stables, and riding the horses, children are not only taught lessons in responsibility, discipline, and respect, but are also kept safe from the surrounding crime and violence. The men of Fletcher Street take it upon themselves to provide the children with a positive environment, while passing on important skills and life lessons.
