New York City honors Don Francisco with a street
“Don Francisco Blvd” is real.
“Don Francisco Blvd” is real. Now the iconic Latino personality, Don Francisco — whose real name is Mario Kreutzberger — has a street named after him in New York City. The host of “Sábado Gigante” was honored with an extended stretch of 167th Street, in the Dominican neighborhood of Washington Heights. Here, Don Francisco was greeted by hundreds of loyal fans.
“Somehow they are saying ‘what a pity you’re leaving, good-bye, thank you very much’ and vice versa. I should be saying thanks to them, because they are the representatives, here in Washington Heights, of all of our viewers in the United States,” Kreutzberger told the Associated Press.
In September Univision canceled ‘Sábado Gigante’ after broadcasting for 53 years.
