On Friday, Aug. 12, the French magazine France Football announced the nominees for the 2021-2022 Ballon d'Or, and Colombian Luis Diaz, a Liverpool winger is among the names. During last season, Diaz celebrated two titles — Carabao Cup and FA Cup.

Lucho also started his 2022- 2023 season on the right foot, being crowned Community Shield champion and rubbing shoulders with world football greats.

The Colombian winger is also nominated for the Ballon d'Or alongside great international players, such as Robert Lewandoski, Thibaut Courtois, Sadio Mane, Kylian Mbappé, Erling Haaland, Mohamed Salah, Vinicius Jr and Karim Benzema.

Before arriving in England, Diaz was a star with Portuguese giants Porto. There, he scored 14 goals and notched five assists in the Portugal's Primeira Liga, which lifted the team to another league title after he left.

With Liverpool, he won the F.A. Cup and the League Cup, both with victories over Chelsea. He won the latest Community Shield against Manchester City.

Lucho's contribution was evident in each of the competitions he played with the Reds, although it was not always reflected in goals. In the Premier League, he scored four goals and had three assists. In the Champions League, he scored a total of four goals and got one assist.

The level he showed with the Colombian National Team in the Copa América, a competition in which he scored four times, also had an impact on his nomination for the Ballon d'Or.

Colombian soccer fans hoping for history from their compatriot.
