American actor Edward James Olmos, best known for his Oscar-nominated performance as an inspiring math teacher in the 1988 film "Stand and Deliver" and his role in the 1980s American television crime drama "Miami Vice," will be the fourth recipient of the Platino Prizes' career-achievement award.

  Olmos will be presented with the Platino Honor Award by Spanish comedian Carlos Latre and Uruguayan actress and singer Natalia Oreiro on July 22 at the Platino Prizes for Ibero-American Cinema gala, which will take place at Madrid's Caja Magica stadium.

  Oreiro also is a Platino best-actress nominee this year for her role in "Gilda, no me arrepiento de este amor" (I'm Gilda).

  Enrique Cerezo, president of the Spain-based Audiovisual Producers' Rights Management Association (EGEDA), co-organizer of the Platino Prizes along with the Ibero-American Federation of Film and Audiovisual Producers (FIPCA), made the announcement on Wednesday.

  The 70-year-old Olmos, a son of Mexican immigrants who was born in Los Angeles, broke ground for Hispanics in Hollywood and won two Golden Globe awards, one for "The Burning Season" and another for his role as Lieutenant Martin "Marty" Castillo in "Miami Vice."

  He also won an Emmy award for his performance in that same TV series.

  Olmos' film credits also include "Blade Runner" (1982), "2 Guns" (2013) and "Selena" (1997), while Cerezo told journalists that the actor also will be a cast member in the upcoming Blade Runner sequel "Blade Runner 2049."

  The three previous winners of the Platino Honor Award were Ricardo Darin, Antonio Banderas and Sonia Braga, who also is in the running for a best-actress Platino for her role in "Aquarius."

  The presenters at this year's Platino Prize gala will include actors Imanol Arias, Jorge Perugorria, Kate del Castillo, Miguel Bose and Rob Schneider.

  "A Monster Calls," an English-language fantasy drama directed by Spanish filmmaker Juan Antonio Bayona, leads the way with seven Platino nominations, nearly all of which are in the technical categories.

  The five films in the running for the top Platino prize, Best Ibero-American Fiction Film, are "Aquarius" (Brazil), "El ciudadano ilustre" (The Distinguished Citizen) (Argentina-Spain), "El hombre de las mil caras" (Smoke & Mirrors) (Spain), "Julieta" (Spain) and "Neruda" (Chile-France-Argentina-United States-Spain).
