Forbes magazine recently announced Kansas City as the "Taco Capital” of the United States. The reason is simple, unlike in other U.S. cities, Kansas City's Mexican population hails from nearly every cultural region of Mexico. It means Kansas City doesn't just specialize in carnitas, mole or sopes, but is home to the masters of all Mexican dishes.

"If you can find it in Mexico, there's a family in Kansas City serving it today," the magazine writes. "Home to more than 50 taco joints, many of them family-owned businesses, the 'Heart of America' is a diverse city with no ethnic majority and a population that exceeds 25 percent Latino or Hispanic identification, most of which may be of Mexican origin."

Kansas City is a city full of people from diverse backgrounds and within this diversity, Mexican  businesses and family restaurants are proud of their heritage, sharing their culture and representing Mexico. Alexis Contreras, owner of Don Antonio Carniceria Tortilleria y Taqueria, along with his parents commented that he is happy to see his customers from diverse backgrounds come together for Mexican food.

"What I like most about having a taco store is showcasing diversity," he said.

With dozens of taquerias, restaurants and markets to choose from in one small city, the magazine has recommended "The KCK Taco Trail" a guide to the city's taco treasures.

They've identified more than 50 taco vendors you can't miss and have uploaded the information to "Taco Trail" to locate all the tacos near you on a map when you're in town.
