The Mexican embassy in Uruguay, in collaboration with the Museum of Pre-Columbian and Indigenous Art (MAPI), on Wednesday in Montevideo inaugurated an exhibit of Mexican archaeology in honor of Angel Falco, Uruguay's ambassador to Mexico at the turn of the 20th century.

The "Ancient Mexico, Glances from the South" exhibit will remain on display until July at the Mexican Embassy in Montevideo.

MAPI director Facundo de Almeida told EFE that this will mark the first time visitors will be able to see the entire collection, which is of "very important" anthropological and historical value.

He added that MAPI aims to get the Uruguayan public interested in Latin America's indigenous cultures, which should be "appreciated, valued and respected," as they are part of a present with a "rich and valuable cultural diversity"

Mexican Ambassador to Uruguay Francisco Arroyo said that the collection will be on display only in Uruguay, after "many years without seeing the light," adding that the exhibition is a "celebration" of the "deep friendship and cultural relationship" between the two countries.

Falco was an influential humanist writer, poet and soldier, as well as Uruguay's ambassador to Mexico.
