The storming of the U.S. Capitol by violent Trump supporters, under the idea that  " the election has been stolen from them" was unprecedented. 

On Jan. 6, Washington became a real mess, four people died after shots were fired in and around the Capitol and the city went under curfew at 6 p.m.

President Trump, in true President Trump fasion, also posted a video in which he took no responsibility or any action in response to what happened.

After what happened, the reactions of artists actively encouraging voting during the campaign showed their outrage. The common ground for those who are speaking out against the situation was the defense of democracy, equality under the law, the struggle for the recognition and respect of diversity (race, gender, religion), and respect for human rights.

Selena Gomez, the singer of Mexican descent who actively encouraged the vote during the electoral campaign tweeted a message calling attention to social media leaders:

In response to the president's actions, Twitter and Facebook deleted his latest posts and suspended his accounts, notifying users that the decision was made because messages from the President and his followers violated the policy of civic integrity.

The Honduran-born actress, America Ferrera, also spoke out, demanding that those responsible for encouraging what she calls "domestic terrorism" confront the events.

The Puerto Rican rapper 'Residente', known for his political involvement, was not indifferent to the crisis in the United States.

His response was a wink to Trump's derogatory comments, in which he mentioned that the Electoral College certification are "absolute banana republic cr*p on the Capitol."

Cardi B, the rapper who has been one of the most activist public figures during the election campaign, demanded justice.

Jonathan Van Ness, renowned hairdresser and LGBTQ+ public figure, reacted to the assault on the Capitol by calling for the removal of the president.

As was also pointed out by many memebrs of Congress in response to the day's events, Trump's messaging encouraged the day events.  And although this could have been a clue to things getting out of control, no one expected something of such magnitude would happen.
