Santa Marta is known for its diverse tourist activities, ranging from walks on the beach to climbing the Sierra Nevada, as well as walking its streets full of history.

In addition to its great tourist offerings, the city is also known for having been the place where Simón Bolívar died in 1830 in a hacienda called Quinta de San Pedro Alejandrino, which is now a museum open to the public.

Thanks to its natural diversity, Santa Marta has also become one of the top tourist destinations for locals and foreigners.

According to figures revealed by the Tourist Promoter (Pro-Rodadero), the capital of Magdalena was one of the cities in the country that had the highest tourist turnout with almost 3 million people in 2021 alone, after emerging from the pandemic.

This city, which has an average altitude of 2 masl (meters above sea level), has the highest peak in all of Colombia, the Pico Cristóbal Colón, which is located at 5775 masl in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, a space also declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1979.

Descending from this point where snow accumulates, tourists can enjoy the beach resort of El Rodadero, one of the main destinations of the city that offers crystal clear waters, golden sand and sunshine throughout the year.

El Rodadero is the beach resort that tops the list of beaches preferred by visitors with a total of 984,864 visitors, in addition to Cabo Tortuga with 157,828.

Another favorite destination for visitors to the area is the Tayrona National Natural Park, one of the most important natural parks in Colombia, home to 29 endemic bird species of the 79 exclusive to Colombia, which are distributed in regions with different thermal floors ranging from sea level to heights of 900 meters. This is the diversity of nature in Santa Marta.

Last year, more than 50,000 tourists visited this ecological reserve and enjoyed the wonders of Colombian fauna and flora.

Santa Marta is a city with a varied offer that can be adapted to all tastes on vacation, so it is increasingly strengthening in different aspects that can improve the experience of tourists.
