In its almost 300 kilometers of network, the Madrid Metro -considered one of the best in the world- hides museums that are true jewels of art.

To get to know them, the Spanish capital's Metro promotes the “Museum Passport” initiative, with which it encourages locals and foreign tourists to get to know the little-known cultural wealth of this means of urban transport.

This passport proposes a tour of the Chamberí Station, which preserves intact all the original elements from 1919, its platforms, its vaults, its furniture, its advertising panels, and where a documentary about its history is also screened.

The route map also proposes a visit to the classic and historic trains of Chamartin, which have been in service between 1919 and 1965; and to the paleontological deposits at the Carpetana Station, which includes valuable discoveries from the Miocene.

The tour includes stops at the Engine Shed, the Pacific Station Lobby (which allows visitors to discover the essence of the old subway), the Tirso de Molina Lobby, the Gran Vía Museum, and the Caños del Peral Museum.

It is important to know that in some of these stations it is essential to book in advance through the web: https://museosmetromadrid.es

HOW TO GET THE PASSPORT?

People interested in visiting all these magical hidden places along the Madrid Metro network can pick up their passport, completely free of charge, at the Chamberi Station, Nave de Motores and the Chamartín Historical Trains exhibition.

The program encourages visitors to take a selfie at each of the points of interest; In this way, they will be able to go to the Chamberí Station, Nave de Motores, Historical Trains of Chamartín or the shops of Metro de Sol and Plaza de Castilla to show the photographs to prove their presence at each of the stops and seal the passport.

Once the passport has all the stamps, visitors can look for a reward at the Madrid Metro Store, at Sol or Plaza de Castilla stations.

This tourist route can be done at any time of the year; and it is without doubt a creative and unique proposal to discover the attractions that Madrid hides underground.

Tourists can get more information about the route on this web page; and about the passport, at this link.
