Colonia Americana, located in the city of Guadalajara, in western Mexico, tops the list of top neighborhoods in the world curated by global media brand Time Out, where its eclectic mix of historic Art Deco mansions and warehouse music venues were the main reasons for choosing this neighborhood.

"Guadalajara is emerging as a must-see, and Colonia Americana is the place to be right now," said Time Out Travel editor James Manning in a statement. "It's home to a creative community that pushes boundaries, a growing number of incredible places to eat and some of the best nightlife in the Western Hemisphere. And street life is second to none."

Coming in at number nine was Barrio Yungay in Santiago, Chile, a national heritage site for being the first planned neighborhood in the Chilean capital, which has had an edgy reputation in recent years.

"Yungay has become a magnet for young and trendy people: even Chile's millennial president, Gabriel Boric, decided to move here in March 2022. Aside from illustrious new residents, working-class locals stroll alongside bohemian creatives along attractive boulevards such as Lavaud, lined with a diverse range of baroque, Bauhaus and art deco facades," said Time Out in the official presentation of the neighborhoods on its website.

Yungay is also home to several museums and the famous Quinta Normal Park, surrounded by restaurants offering local and international cuisine.

Time Out's list is the result of an extensive survey in which thousands of people from around the world were asked about their favorite places in their city. Time Out editors also contributed their local expertise in order to create the definitive guide, highlighting 51 of the world's coolest neighborhoods. The top 20 are "simply put, amazing places to be right now," the brand stated.

Time Out's complete top 10 for 2022 is:

1. Colonia Americana - Guadalajara, Mexico.

2. Cais do Sodré - Lisbon, Portugal

3. Wat Bo Village - Siem Reap, Cambodia

4. Ridgewood - New York City, U.S.A.

7. Shimokitazawa - Tokyo, Japan
