Ballet Hispanico seeks emerging Latinx talent for its Instituto Coreográfico in 2021
For the ninth year, Ballet Hispanico launches a call for emerging Latinx choreographers and filmmakers for its Instituto Coreográfico.
Ballet Hispánico has been the leading Latin dance organization in the United States for the past 50 years. The organization has three main programs: the Company, the School of Dance and its Community Arts Partnerships.
Its inclusive and diverse approach has allowed it to be one of the leading platforms for historically omitted and overlooked artists, providing them with tools, voice and vindication.
For the past nine years, the organization has also run a program that provides young Latino artists with an environment where they have the freedom to explore their creative processes, cultural identity and movement through dance creation.

In 2010, Eduardo Vilaro, Artistic Director and CEO of the Ballet, created the Instituto Coreográfico as a space for Latino artists to have the opportunity to create works by gathering their cultural experiences in a dance learning laboratory.
This year's version, like many other cultural events, will be a hybrid between virtual and in-person due to the coronavirus health crisis. Ballet Hispánico will select a choreographer and a film director residing in the United States for this year's Instituto Coregráfico and is committed to maintaining the safety of all artists, complying with all current health and safety protocols for the dancers to allow the choreographer to work in the studio.
The chosen choreographer will have the option to experience the virtual creative process and show, also virtual, will take place on June 10, 2021. For the event, the Instituto Coreográfico will present screenings and panel discussions to allow the public, dancers, presenters and choreographers to reflect and discuss culture, identity and the transformative power of dance.
