Next "Batgirl" could be Latina: Leslie Grace and Isabela Merced among options to play the hero
Four actresses are vying for the role of the new "Batgirl," including two Latinas.
Warner Bros. Studios is shuffling options to decide who will be the actress to give life to the superheroine "Batgirl" in a new movie.
According to an exclusive report published yesterday by Deadline, actresses Leslie Grace, of Dominican origin, and Isabela Merced, of Peruvian origin, are among the candidates. Both actresses are part of the selection process for the role of "Batgirl" in which Zoey Deutch and Haley Lu Richardson are also in the running.
According to The Wrap, the favorites for the role are Richardson and Grace, although it is rumored that the former has withdrawn from the process for unknown reasons.

Meanwhile, actress Merced, who shared the screen with Eugenio Derbez and Eva Longoria in Dora and the Lost City of Gold, will be auditioning this week for the lead role.
The movie about the superheroine has been in Warner Bros.' drawer for several years. So far. it is known that the script for Batgirl is being written by Christina Hodson, writer of the story for Birds of Prey and The Flash, while Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, the duo that directed Bad Boys for Life are confirmed to direct.
Batgirl is DC's first live-action film being planned exclusively for HBO Max, foregoing a theatrical release.
