Check out the nominees for 'Premio Lo Nuestro 2021'
'Premio Lo Nuestro 2021' will be held on Feb. 18 by Univision and will be the first attended award ceremony of the year.
'Premio Lo Nuestro 2021' is the annual awards ceremony for Latin music in the United States and will be the first on-site music awards of the year. The 33rd edition will be held with all restrictions and health standards brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, and will celebrate the hope, resilience and best of the music of the Latin community after one of the most difficult years of past decades.
As usual, the awards will feature musical premieres, multi-generational performances, exclusive collaborations and musical tributes, making it a show full of emotion.
The list of nominees includes 147 artists, and is divided into 34 categories and 4 musical genres: Pop, Urban, Tropical and Regional Mexican Music. In almost every category, there is a prevalence of male artists in the Latin music scene. Artists such as Maluma, J Balvin, Camilo, Ozuna and Bad Bunny lead the year's nominations.
The reggaeton stars are defending their titles and hoping that the votes will continue to go in their favor.
However, there is a burgeoning female presence both in the music scene and in the ceremonies that recognize the importance and contribution of women in music. Karol G, Natti Natasha, Rosalia, Becky G, Shakira, Anitta, Cazzu, and Nicki Nicole are some of the female names on the list of nominations for 2021's awards. Despite the heightened recognition, many of these artists are participating in the awards for their collaborations with male artists.
In the most popular category of the awards, 'Artist of the Year', Karol G and Natti Natasha, are in charge of representing women, and are up against established stars of Latin music such as Alejandro Fernandez, Bad Bunny, Camilo, J Balvin, Maluma, Ozuna, Christian Nodal, and Sebastian Yatra.
