Nine dead in shooting that targeted members of Emanuel AME Church in Charleston

Nine people are reported killed in a shooting at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, S.C., which took place Wednesday night. The victims of the shooting were members of a Bible study group and the pastor, Rev. Clementa Pinckney, who was also a Democratic State Senator.
Charleston's police chief has called the mass shooting a hate crime, and the perpetrator, reportedly a young white man, is still at large.
Emanuel AME is the oldest AME church in the South and has a distinguished abolitionist and civil rights history.
