Jack Ludmir, MD, FACOG, has been appointed the Chief Physician Executive of the new Temple Women’s Hospital campus, as well as the Clinical Adjunct Professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University.

The announcement comes just over a week after Dr. Ludmir stepped down from his roles with Thomas Jefferson University and Jefferson Health, which included Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Population Health, and Executive Vice President for Equity and Associate Provost for Community Engagement.

“Dr. Ludmir is an internationally known physician leader with strong ties to the North Philadelphia community and is exceptionally well-qualified to lead the diverse array of clinical programs at our new Temple Women’s Hospital campus,” said Michael A. Young, MHA, FACHE, President & CEO of Temple Health, in a statement.

“His leadership experience in three prominent academic medical centers makes him ideally suited to his new role,” he added.

In his new role, Dr. Ludmir will work with Enrique Hernandez, MD, FACOG, FACS, Professor and Chair of Obstetrics & Gynecology at Temple Health, to plan and oversee clinical services provided by talented clinical teams at Temple Women’s Hospital.

Throughout his career, Dr. Ludmir has dedicated his life to providing critical care to women, and those who are most vulnerable at both a local and global level.

“Dr. Ludmir is a strong advocate for making high quality care available to vulnerable populations, including the underserved and uninsured in the Philadelphia region,” said Amy J. Goldberg, MD, FACS, Dean of the Lewis Katz School of Medicine.

“He has been a force for change throughout his career, creating bridges among partnering institutions, physicians and care teams, residents and medical students, and community-based organizations to reduce maternal morbidity in high-risk populations and advance health equity and access to women’s healthcare,” she continued.

It is that force that led him to launch the Philadelphia Collaborative for Health Equity at Jefferson, which seeks to mobilize resources to leverage health as a catalyst to ensure every Philadelphia family reaches its full potential; as well as the Jefferson Latina Women’s Clinic, which provides prenatal and postnatal care, medical-legal guidance, and behavioral health counseling, along with other services to women from Latinx, Hispanic and other diverse backgrounds to reduce maternal mortality with an emphasis on cultural competence, dignity, and respect.

Dr. Ludmir also co-founded Puentes de Salud, which partners with Philadelphia's Latinx immigrant community to build long-term prosperity and a responsible learning environment for future generations.

Having earned his medical degree from the Lewis Katz School of Medicine, Dr. Ludmir's latest appointment with Temple marks a homecoming for the dedicated physician and obstetrician.

Other previous roles include Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Reproductive Biology at Harvard Medical School and Director of Maternal Fetal Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, and 17 years as Professor and Chair of Obstetrics & Gynecology at Pennsylvania Hospital in the University of Pennsylvania Health System.

Dr. Ludmir has been recognized several times for his critical, life-changing, and in many instances, life-saving work, including being named a 2020 AL DÍA Archetype in the category of health.
