Colombian Vice President Francia Marquez was included on the prestigious TIME NEXT list from TIME Magazine, which each year gathers the hundred most influential people in the world in different categories such as art, innovation, leaders, advocates and phenomena in different disciplines (design, sports, technology, music).

Within the category of 'Leaders,' Marquez shares space with other great figures such as Kaja Kallas, Prime Minister of Estonia, and Cassidy Hutchinson, right hand of the former chief of staff of former U.S. President Donald Trump.

TIME highlighted the vice president's struggle "as an environmental advocate and for the rights of disadvantaged communities." In addition, it pointed out that in 2018, she was the winner of the Goldman Environmental Prize for her fight against illegal mining.

"Afro-American, Indigenous and rural communities in Colombia have a champion in her, as do those throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. And with her powerful example, Francia is already leaving her mark on every child in the Western Hemisphere who says, 'I want to be like Francia when I grow up,'" Carlos Alvarado Quesada, former president of Costa Rica, wrote in her bio for the publication.

Another Colombian on the list, but in the Artists category, is Oscar Murillo, an artist from Valle del Cauca, recognized for his abstract works and for holding a Turner Prize, one of the most prestigious distinctions in the art world.

The artist appears alongside other celebrities such as actress Lily Collins, actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and television director Nida Manzoor.

Each year, TIME magazine publishes this list that recognizes 100 rising stars from all industries around the world.

"There is no one way to make an impact, so there is no one way for TIME to measure the influence essential to its selections. Because of this, and by its very design, the TIME100 Next 2022 list includes musicians as well as medical professionals, government officials as well as movement leaders, and high-profile whistleblowers alongside top CEOs, all curated by TIME's journalists and informed by their reporting," reads the list's summary.

The magazine notes that "what unites these people are their extraordinary efforts to shape our world and define our future."
