The new Alien film will be produced by Oscar-winning director Ridley Scott and will premiere in the United States exclusively on Hulu. In Europe, Latin America, the United Kingdom and Australia, the movie will premiere on Disney+.

Fede Álvarez is set to direct this new Alien. Álvarez is well-known as a great lover of the horror genre. The Uruguayan filmmaker began his career in 2009, when he directed the short feature film Panic Attack in Uruguay.

After that, he led major film projects such as the Don't Breathe series(available on Netflix), The Girl in the Spider's Web (available on Google Play), and Evil Dead (available on Amazon Prime Video).

The Uruguayan, who considers himself as an outsider in the film industry, will also be in charge of writing the script for this new story in the Alien saga, a task he has carried out several times, such as in remakes of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre produced by Netflix, Evil Dead, and Calls, television series available on Apple Tv.

Press reports indicate that the new Alien started when the 44-year-old Uruguayan director had the opportunity to share his ideas with Scott a couple years ago. Scott considered the Latino's point of view and, in 2021, called him to give him to opportunity to direct.

The science fiction horror film, produced by 20th Century Studios, will not be related or connected to the previous Alien movies: Alien, the Eighth Passenger (1979), Aliens: The Return (1986), Alien3 (1992), Alien: Resurrection (1997), Alien vs. Predator (2004), Prometheus (2012) and Alien: Covenant (2017). Álvarez is expected to have free rein.

“The project was resumed purely due to the strength of Fede's proposal. It's a really good story with a lot of characters that we've never seen before," said Steve Asbell, president of 20th Century Studios, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “It's not a movie that has to be all things to all people like big budget projects. This is closer to its roots.”

Asbell explained that the new Alien will present brand new characters unknown by the public. The premiere of the film is still to be determined.
