Philadelphia’s Reading Terminal Market was recently named one of the "10 Great Public Spaces in America" by American Planning Association.
The Washington-based organization selected the market for “its history and function in Philadelphia, and the diversity of its food stores and customer base” said Paul Steinke, the market's general manager, according to Philly.com.
The historic tourist destination attracts more than 6 million visitors a year. The market, which opened in 1892, has more than 70 merchants that sell a variety of items including baked goods, fresh produce, plants and hand-crafted items.
Other public spaces on the list include Point State Park in Pittsburgh, PA, Lincoln Trails Network in Nebraska, and Rainier Vista in Washington.
