Hispanics in Philanthropy (HIP)  debuted the first crowdfunding website geared to Latino organizations.

On Thursday, March 6, HIP celebrated 30 years of providing resources to the Latino community. During the event, they unveiled HIPGIVE.org, the first online donation platform solely based on raising funds for Latino organizations in the U.S. and Latin America.

The new venture will join the likes of Kickstarter and Indiegogo.

As crowdfunding continues to gain popularity, HIP wants make sure Latinos are part of the picture, and given the opportunity to share ideas and solutions.

"As we witness the growth of the Hispanic population, Latino nonprofit organizations are just starting to attract substantial investments from organized philanthropy. These investments will pay off handsomely in every community in the US and for our countries of origin," Campoamor, HIP president wrote in a press release.

Donations from the website will be matched by HIP grant funds as part of a fundraising contest.

HIP has funded more than 600 Latino organizations and continues to support foundations, companies and individuals that aim to improve access and opportunities for Latinos. It also addresses policies including health, immigration and economic development.

"We must reframe the way Latinos and Latin Americans are portrayed in media. We are philanthropists, givers of economic prosperity, intellectual and cultural capital, solid family values, and much more," Campoamor said.
