"Sé que no todos ustedes son rencorosos, sé que no todos los Repúblicanos son deplorables, sé que no todos los conservadores son aborrecibles, sé que no todos los hombres Blancos son odiosos, pero aquellos de ustedes que apoyaron a Trump se transformaron en facilitadores del odio."

Michelle Obama addresses La Salle University

 09/30/2016 - 09:45

First Lady Michelle Obama wasn’t scheduled to speak at La Salle University until noon on Wednesday, September 28, but according to students and security, the eager crowd was lining up outside the arena as early as midnight the night before. Although Obama was not there on her own behalf—she is one of Hillary Clinton’s chosen campaign surrogates, and will spend the weeks leading up to the election speaking in swing states to the merits of her husband’s former rival—the excitement in the mostly young, very diverse crowd was palpable.

[OP-ED]: 100 años de ciudadanía estadounidense: ¿qué significa para los Portorriqueños?

 08/10/2016 - 09:26
A nation within a nation, "possessed and unwanted", as author Juan Gonzales writes in his book "Harvest of Empire," the diaspora boricua celebrates with pride their culture in the land of adoption, the United States of America.

A nation within a nation, "possessed and unwanted", as author Juan Gonzales writes in his book "Harvest of Empire," the diaspora boricua celebrates with pride their culture in the land of adoption, the United States of America.

We would like to find out ourselves...

That is why AL DÍA launched last week one of the most exciting editorial projects during our 25 years of existence as an independent news outlet —owned and operated by journalists— here in Philadelphia, home to the second largest settlement of the large Puerto Rican Diáspora in the U.S.

Taking advantage of the DNC2016, which was hosted in our city the final week of July, AL DÍA launched an unique editorial crowd-sourcing project to document an untold, undocumented story:

Day three of the Democratric National Convention was not without its one-liners and the occasional outbursts from the audience. Wednesday evening was considered the "passing of the baton" from current President Barack Obama to Presidential nominee Hillary Clinton. The main theme of the third night of the convention was mainly focused on gun control, global warming and national security.

Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg used his time on the podium to take a couple swipes at Republican Presidential nominee Donald Trump.

Immigration reform is not just a Latino issue

 07/28/2016 - 12:08
Immigration reform is not just a Latino issue

The conversation surrounding social justice can no longer be framed as black, white or brown. That was the message from activists who gathered on day three of the Democratic National Convention to talk about the militarization of police and how to better unify otherwise disparate communities.

“The police most certainly pit black and brown communities against each other,” says Carmen Perez, co-founder of Justice League NYC and executive director of the Gathering for Justice.
