A goal of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. inspired hundreds of Philadelphians of different races, religions and ages at a Center City rally on April 4th – the 49th anniversary of King’s assassination – where they renewed the fight around an overlooked aspect of King’s advocacy: Silver Rights.

The most popular counter-argument against minimum wages advocates is that requiring higher pay will result in higher prices, fewer hours of work, and an overall reduction of jobs. But in 2014, 18 states and D.C. raised their minimum wages, and the results have been quite clearly positive for local economies, reports The Atlantic.

Twenty years ago, Avonne Hargrove left her job as a cashier at Wendy’s to care for an elderly woman, helping her with her day-to-day needs. This week, people across the land will buy pink, frilly, and/or shiny
stuff to commemorate the Herculean effort their moms put into birthing
and raising them. As if brunch and a gift card to the local nail spa
could ever really express anyone's gratitude for not being left by the
side of the road after a particularly colicky night!
