[OP-ED]: No con sangre

 05/19/2017 - 13:18

[OP-ED]: The perils of assuming anything about the Latino vote

 05/18/2017 - 08:20
You don’t need to be a political scientist to figure out a few simple truths: In raw numbers, more and more Hispanics will cast ballots in upcoming elections -- as has been the case for the past 36 years.

At the outset of their new book, “Shattered: Inside Hillary Clinton’s Doomed Campaign,” Jonathan Allen and Amie Parnes note that adviser David Plouffe prioritized three goals for Clinton to win: “It was important to have the right culture and mission, to manage Bill Clinton, and to effectively target Latino voters.”

We know how well that turned out.

 05/18/2017 - 07:38

Gay men are often targeted by robbers, with gangs even specializing in this type of crime. The modus operandi is for the criminal to seduce the person either in person or via Internet and then, once inside the victim's home, to steal his belongings and kill him.

[OP-ED]: On immigration, conservatives premiere a new office of political theater

 05/17/2017 - 09:26
The data confirms it. Studies show that illegal immigrants commit crimes at lower levels than the native-born. The FBI reports that cities with high numbers of illegal immigrants are among the safest in the country.

When they criticize laws against hate crimes, conservatives claim we shouldn’t create special classes of victims.

Well, forget all that. It turns out that they feel differently when they can get political mileage from exploiting the public’s fear of illegal immigrants. Then they’re all in.

OP-ED]: Trump is hurting America’s friends abroad

 05/10/2017 - 09:26
t is now quite possible -- in fact, likely -- that the next president of Mexico will be an anti-American socialist-populist similar to Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez. Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador was polling around 10 percent at the start of 2015. He is now around 30 percent, the front-runner among the potential candidates for next year’s election. File

There has been much focus on Donald Trump’s erratic foreign policy -- the outlandish positions, the many flip-flops, the mistakes. But far more damaging in the long run might be what some have termed the Trump effect -- the impact of Trump on the domestic politics of other countries. That effect appears to be powerful, negative and enduring. It could undermine decades of American foreign policy successes.
