While mirroring Arizona's SB 1070 in its intent "to make attrition through enforcement," it goes a step further by engaging "all agencies of this Commonwealth and its political subdivisions".

That bill specifies that "every agency or political subdivisions of this Commonwealth shall verify the lawful presence in the United States of any natural person 18 years of age or older who has applied for Federal public benefits".  With the door of the right to privacy cracked open, self-willed government officials will abuse it.  It already happened with the Social Security's E-Verify, a workers identity verification program; that database was illegally used against the Social Security Administration's own employees.

It may appear as mere legal jargon, but one cannot avoid noticing how careful the proponents of HB2479 are in specifying this bill would apply only to "natural persons", as in real human beings, to avoid implicating by mistake "legal persons" such as business corporations.  Those of course are always welcome.

Why engage all powers that be in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania?  The bill states: "Illegal immigration is causing economic hardship and lawlessness in this Commonwealth".

"Lawlessness" is inflammatory.  This deliberate and loosely employed term reaffirms in the minds of the populace the idea of corruption and of a highly contagious disease.

Just what constitutes this terrible state of "lawlessness" supposedly plaguing Pennsylvania?  Bill HB 2479 defines it for us: "the unlawful entry, presence and economic activity" of immigrants.

Unlike President Obama who offered mild comments on Arizona's SB 1070 bill calling it "misguided" along with his lukewarm offer to 'keep an eye on it', Pennsylvania's governor Rendell straightforwardly said: "If it's tracking the Arizona law I would veto it. The Arizona law is a disaster."

The Obama administration, for well over a year, is directly responsible for the harsh and unprecedented mass detention and deportation of immigrants, a policy instituted during the Bush administration in 2002 through a memo by U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft blessing the arrests of any suspected "illegal" immigrants by local police.  What prevents President Obama from rescinding that memo?

To lash out against helpless human beings, to artificially and wickedly brand them as "criminals" is in indeed an effective way of emasculating, yes, of castrating America the land of immigrants.
