Health Care Reform must be brought about urgently, decisively, with the conviction characteristic of acting upon an unbearable and extremely damaging injustice.

Not reforming the Health System to protect the consumer rights of those who can afford insurance, against the abuses of insurance companies, is irresponsible.

Not providing health care to those who tragically cannot afford it is inhuman and immoral.

Not safeguarding Medicare and Medicaid from the squandering enabled by despicable corruption and abuse would continue to make the government an accomplice of fraud. Imposing a basic policy on those irresponsibly not contributing their share of the cost is a matter of common sense.

Not reforming the unsustainable existing Health Care system which carries the largest portion of the budget deficit, will soon bankrupt the Government as a whole.

Not reforming Health Care would be unconscionable.

Still, dogmatic beliefs that a Public Option and Government regulation of Health Care will bring socialism and communism to America still manage to profoundly damage the very intelligence of a whole nation.

The estimated cost of Health Care Reform will be less than the cost of the unwarranted war in Iraq, it will cost less than the tax breaks for large corporations and the extremely wealthy, it will cost less than the wanton stealing from Medicare and Medicaid in the past three decades.

We found no lies and no bullying in President Obama’s address, neither gun touting nor hateful irate bellowing.

Still the President withstood being called a liar while addressing the claim that reform efforts would insure illegal immigrants, reviving the shameful and menacing town hall showdowns.  “It’s not true,” replied a President who by contrast remained not merely collected, but dignified.

Sick bigotry against an African American President and against immigrants might also explain why some individuals are clearly signaling even their desire to kill, by conspicuously attending town rallies armed with assault rifles and many rounds of ammunition, a fitting requiem for the deranged Columbine teenage assassins.

Hatred knows no reason.  Hatred knows no boundaries.   To withhold health care reform from benefiting 300 million Americans, because maybe fewer “illegal immigrants” -also human beings currently slaving away while dwelling in limbo- might benefit from it, is as absurd as advocating against providing clean drinking water to the American people because maybe some of those “dangerous aliens” might drink it as well.

This is a moral issue.  Government and governance depend on squarely and promptly addressing this need.  It is indeed time to act!
