Take note: A traditional Mexican Party and fundraiser will celebrate the fifth anniversary of Casa Monarca, a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion and preservation of Mexican culture and traditions in Philadelphia.

Casa Monarca was founded by educator Dalia O'Gorman and local activist Leticia Roa Nixon. Since its inception, the organization has sought to provide community services to the immigrant community in South Philly as well as cultural programs for the younger generation.

The name of the organization alludes to the migration of the Monarch Butterfly. "Mexicans follow a similar path. We arrive fearful and sometimes we are looked down upon, but like butterflies, we migrate to survive and to develop," O'Gorman said to AL DÍA.

The anniversary celebration will take place Nov. 1,  at Crane Old School-White Room, at 1417 N. 2nd Street, starting at 6 p.m., and will feature Mexican food prepared by Dionicio Jimenez, chef at El Rey restaurant. It will also feature musical guests Pedro Villasenor and Mariachi; a presentation of Pre-Hispanic dance, and the folk music of the “Yaretzi” group.

Tickets are available for $35, or $315 for a group of 10.

For more information or to buy tickets call (215) 253-3033. You can also send an email or visit its website.
