For another year, and this will be the 34th, Philly will celebrate Earth Day on April 18 with the “Run for Clean Air”, 100 percent sustainable race, created to foster the development of a less contaminated city.

But not only is the “purpose” sustainable, so is the race itself. The main source of energy of this event is solar energy, while the t-shirts, numbers and even the medals are made of recycled materials. The organization also tries to reduce the consumption of paper to the max and eliminates bottles; while the food that is served is organic and the smoothies are bicycle powered. Additionally, the use of sustainable means of transportation by runners is also encouraged, among others, by setting up a bicycle parking area.

The race will start at the Museum of Art and runs along the Schuylkil River. In addition to the 5K race, the 3K march and the half mile MOM’s Organic Market Kids Fun Run, this year the organization has added a new and exciting 10K run.
