Herbalife scheme exposed in theatres this March

Writer and Director Ted Braun follows Hedge Fund owner Bill Ackman in order to expose the global nutrition and weight management company Herbalife in the independent film Betting on Zero. The company is known to manage the largest financial pyramid scheme in history. In Braun's movie, he shows the battles that Ackman and Herbalife play out in board rooms, in the media and especially in working class America. The picture shows how the American Dream went wrong.

On Thursday restaurant owners in Philadelphia are preparing for hundreds of Immigrant families to object the recent raids performed by Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE). A majority of immigrants who come to this country are trying to improve their lives as well as support families who are still waiting back home for their chance of opportunity and happiness.

Esto es lo que afirman las organizaciones que actualmente trabajan para proteger los derechos de los inmigrantes en la ciudad.

Tras los planes de retirar a familias inmigrantes el día jueves y reportes de oleadas de redadas por parte de la ICE, la pregunta de lo que realmente significa ser una ciudad santuario está en la boca del cañón, mucho más cerca de lo que Harrisburg y Trump la habían colocado.

En un esfuerzo continuo de la gente fuera de la burocracia, Filadelfia verá una demostración física del verdadero impacto que tienen los inmigrantes en la ciudad.

Take your pictures today while you still can. The iconic Love statue will disappear until Summer 2017.

The City of Philadelphia’s Public Art Program will remove Robert Indiana’s LOVE sculpture (1976) for restoration, before it’s returned to the LOVE Park also known as  John F. Kennedy Plaza.

Is it “hypocritical” to call Philadelphia a sanctuary city?

This is what organizations working to protect immigrant rights are saying in Philadelphia.

With plans for a walk-out of immigrant families posed for Thursday and reports of a surge in Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids, the question of what a sanctuary city really means is being pushed even farther to the forefront than Harrisburg or Trump could.

For others, its the first day that begins the rest of their lives together as husband and wife. The City of Philadelphia holds its annual Valentine's Day wedding ceremony on the 6th floor of City Hall for 50 soon-to-be married couples with the help of 10 city judges.

Although usually visited as a haunted attraction during Halloween, the Eastern State Penitentiary has a much more historical significance. The prison was considered a new and revolutionary concept and later set the standard for how prisons should be made on a world-wide scale.

The prison was the first of its kind to have central heat, running water, and efficient plumbing throughout the complex. At that time, President Andrew Jackson had no running water in the White House and had to heat the building with coal-burning stoves.

DA Candidates react to Seth Williams' withdrawal

Seth Williams announced today that he will not be running for Philadelphia District Attorney. 

Williams was first elected in 2009 and current runner's express it was the excitement of having the first black district attorney that made the election an easy win for Williams. And though his star quickly rose, his tenure as DA has been rife with scandal and investigation.

Though his most notable scandal has been the recent record fine in the amount of $62,000, Williams has also ben under federal investigation by the FBI in 2015 and received other pushback.

We at ALDIA News bring to you the places in Philadelphia you may have heard of but you may not know of. There are many stories within the city. We do our part to bring them into the light.

With this rare sunny and warm day, you would think it was the middle of summer instead of the second week of February. ALDIA News takes a trip to El Bloque de Oro (The Golden Block) and near Front & Allegheny avenue to see how people are using their time in this type of weather.

We then go to Temple University Main Campus to see how students and staff are taking advantage of the day.
