It was touch and go for a minute when trying to locate any type of information regarding Philadelphia’s Office of Innovation and Technology (OIT). After seeing journalist Dustin Slaughter tweet that he had trouble getting in contact with the office, I decided to try for myself.

When calling the direct number listed on OIT's website, I did get a response from someone but was quickly transferred to the city’s non-emergency 311 system. I simply asked when would the social media and email contact be made available. No one seemed to have the answer and I was given the number to OIT.

Later, I contacted the Director of Communications Lauren Hitt and found out that the center operates at least three accounts. The OIT’s official account, the PhilaGovData account and PhilaGIS. The last two have not been updated since last month.

It’s unclear if OIT has any other social media presence besides their twitter accounts. There’s no email yet, but there is an email group regarding open data that anyone can join. There’s also a blog where the OIT posts some useful information.

Obviously, the OIT and other branches of Philly government are going through a transitional period, but hopefully with a new administration, better functioning sites for the city are on their way.
