Within hours of his inauguration Monday, Mayor Jim Kenney reversed an eleventh-hour executive order put into effect by his predecessor, effectively restoring Philadelphia's status as a 'sanctuary' city.

As with the original order (the one Nutter signed in 2014 and then revised days before leaving office), Kenney's decree bars local law enforcement from most cooperation with federal immigration authorities. If you don't know about Kenney's immigration background, or what a 'sanctuary' city even means, here's some background reading. Keep in mind that even big-city mayors have very little control on the matter. Immigration is a federal issue, and cooperation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is one of the few areas that local jurisdictions have a say on. It is worth noting, however, that Kenney has supported immigrant-friendly legislation like language access in City Hall.

The Philadelphia Business Journal launched this same poll on Wednesday. So far, 70 percent of their readers say they do not support Kenney's stance, with 110 total votes cast as of 4:15 p.m. We want to ask our readers the same question.
