Philadelphia mourns carjacking victims
The heart of Philadelphia moved north on Tuesday night to the intersection of Germantown and Allegheny, where neighbors, religious leaders and elected officials united across age, ethnicity and religion to build onto the neatly-arranged memorial of stuffed animals, candles and sympathy cards for the three children who died in a carjacking on Friday. The streets were closed for more than two blocks as the mourners gathered to pray and promise to put a stop to the violence killing children throughout the city.

Three children — Keiearra Williams, 15, Joseph Reed, 10, and Terrence Moore, 7 — died on Friday in that lot, and three others, including the childrens’ mother — Keisha Williams — were injured.
The details came quickly throughout the weekend so that by Tuesday, two male suspects — Cornelius Crawford, 23, and Jonathan Rosa, 19 — were in custody, denied bail and charged with second-degree murder as well as kidnapping, aggravated assault, robbery and sexual assault.
According to police, the men allegedly hijacked an SUV of local real-estate agent in Fairhill and sexually assaulted her before speeding off. After driving more than a mile, the SUV's tire reportedly popped. The car drove out of control onto the sidewalk. The three children were hit along with their mother and a neighbor, Thelma Brown. The car’s owner was also injured.
The children had been working a fruit stand, raising money for the church that they belonged to.
"Our hearts are broken," Williams' cousin, Cassandra Alexander, choked at the vigil on Tuesday night.
Williams remained at Temple University Hospital on Tuesday. Brown was reportedly in stable condition at Hahnemann. The non-profit Education Works, located across the street from the scene of the tragedy, is collecting donations for the family. Former Philadelphia 76ers player Charles Barkley said that he would pay for the childrens’ funeral, scheduled for Monday at North Philadelphia Seventh-day Adventist Church.
