Last Sunday’s march was an act of faith, and politics too. But one thing didn’t take away from the other. Incredible is the sacrifice that many Hispanic immigrants made to travel up to 12 hours over Saturday night, to go to the march, and then travel back overnight to go straight to work on Monday morning.

Incredible is the faith of these workers who didn’t care that four years have passed since the massive marches of 2006, and that there’s still no immigration reform.

But faith moved at least 200 thousand immigrants to shout “yes, we can!”, in a frenzy, when President Obama said in a recorded video, which was showed at least in four screens, that the reform would be “this year”.

The march of the 21st of March will be recorded as the “urging” march, the one about “now”.

A cycle ended and another one begins. From now on the pressure is coming, the same pressure that’s been against Obama, but now against Congress.

The second AL DIA panel in DC took place one day after the march in Washington. One of the invited, Representative Steve King, insisted over and over that in 2007 the phone-calls opposing amnesty flooded Congress.

Now the promoters of amnesty are adopting the same tactics referred to by King, and the republicans and others who did not let the immigration reform advance in 2007. We have to flood the Congress with calls in favor of amnesty and begin to use that word without fear, so that opponents won’t be the owners of this word and they won’t use it exclusively to scare the Americans.

“Politicians respond to pressure”, said Frank Sharry from America’s Voice. That is known by the immigrant folk who turned to the march for all the undocumented, just like they also recognized the electoral tone of many congressmen who went up on the stage... That’s why the crowd didn’t applaud a non-spontaneous 10 year-old boy when he proclaimed that Representative Luis Gutierrez should be president.
