“We’ve got bedbugs back in all, almost all of our 58 [sic] states. We’ve got TB on the rise, we’ve got hepatitis, we’ve got HIV… and it’s coming in because of the, the lack of enforcement of our immigration laws and, and the end result is Americans are suffering, Americans are dying.” Such were the statements by William Gheen head of “Americans for Legal Immigration” during a 2007 radio interview.

Love it or hate it Halloween is back, and the masters of mischief and spook are out on the loose one of them, quoted above, is also strongly advocating in favor of “illegal alien costumes” and decried that efforts to get stores like Target to withdraw such costumes “amounted to an attack on freedom of speech… (and) urged Americans to buy the costumes in protest” as reported by The Washington Post last week.

Many holidays and Halloween in particular are an open invitation to oblivious merriment and downright stupidity.  With much glee we ascribe false evils such as plagues and disease to immigrants, and the commercial machine clumsily wants to cash in on it selling costumes.

How sad, no moral or humanitarian concerns drive change; it’s the fear of costly liability due to discrimination and the potential loss of an ever-increasing immigrant and mostly Hispanic customer base that has driven many merchants to withdraw the “illegal alien costumes” from their inventory.

Beware! To the spooked and those that love being spooked; immigrants and Hispanics are not dangerous, infirm, “illegal” or alien.
