California Governor Jerry Brown has provided an extra $15 million in the state budget proposal to fund legal services to those facing possible deportation, the Los Angeles Times reported on Sunday.

The additional funding will be dedicated to the expansion of legal services for people seeking to acquire citizenship, legal defense of those facing a deportation process as well as those interested in acquiring some legal immigration status.

The item would be in addition to the $3 million allocated for a program for unaccompanied migrant children, as well as a further $5 million for the One California immigrant aid initiative included in the state budget proposal .

This month, the city of Sacramento, California's capital, has approved a fund to provide legal defense to undocumented immigrants who are affected by White House policies, as reported in EFE.

Similarly, Los Angeles has established a $10 million fund for the same purpose and areas such as Santa Clara, San Francisco and Oakland have also allocated public resources to ensure legal representation of undocumented immigrants.

Immigrant rights groups welcomed the increased funding in Brown’s revised state budget, calling it a "signal that the state is committed to protecting families from what could happen under President Trump, " as reported in  the Los Angeles Times.
