High school seniors had until May 1, on Monday, to accept an offer of admission and pay the deposit. Historically known as College Decision Day, there are institutions that accept applications past this deadline.
According to Higher Ed Dive, the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) stated in its annual Colleges Openings Update — published Tuesday — that there are 293 U.S. and foreign colleges with open seats for fall 2023.
NACAC has a database that informs prospective students and their families about these institutions, and the organization said it will be updated daily on its website until the end of July.
With one of the goals of bringing attention to universities and colleges that students might have never considered, NACAC has been releasing the list for 36 years. As it includes colleges with rolling admissions throughout the year, the database can still change in the coming months.
Melissa Clinedinst, NACAC director of research and grants, said in a statement that, on average, four-year nonprofit colleges accept 73% of first-year applicants.
The document also includes information about housing availability and financial aid for first-year and transfer students.
