Fusion and Univision News anchor Jorge Ramos paid tribute to young immigrants hoping for a chance at the American dream in a moving speech at the TIME 100 Gala.

“It is very difficult to be an immigrant because you have to leave everything,” Ramos said. “You leave your home, your family, your friends, your culture, your language, sometimes your soul.”

He also made a toast for Mexican journalists who lost their jobs after denouncing corruption at the highest level of the Mexican government, and had a message for Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto.

“Mr. Peña Nieto, buying houses from contractors and give them millions of dollars is corruption. That is why so many people want your resignation and we are not going to keep quiet,” Ramos said.

This year Ramos was included among TIME 100 most influential people in the world, an annual list that have included world leaders like Barack Obama, Angela Merkel, Vladimir Putin and Pope Francis.
