Twitter is making changes to their timeline yet again. The site continues to struggle as it works on finding new ways to engage its user base. Just last month it announced that it was doing away with the 140 character limit and instead expand it to 10,000. On Wednesday the social media website announced that they were “excited” to unveil a new timeline feature that will help users catch up on the best tweets from people that they follow.

Similar to Facebook, a user’s tweet that they are most likely to care about will appear first in their timeline.

“Here’s how it works. You flip on the feature in your settings; then when you open Twitter after being away for a while, the Tweets you’re most likely to care about will appear at the top of your timeline still in recent reverse chronological order,” Twitter announced on their blog Wednesday. “The rest of the Tweets will be displayed right underneath, also in reverse chronological order, as always. At any point, just pull to refresh to see all new Tweets at the top in the live, up to second experience you already know and love.”

As of right now, the change is just an option. Meaning that users won’t see the feature unless it is manually activated. However, according to Mashable, the opt-in choice will not last for long. After the feature has been out long enough for users to get used to it, Twitter will switch it on for everyone. Though the option to switch back to the original timeline without the feature will be available.
