Mayoral candidate Lynne Abraham stirred up headlines this week by releasing a new poll that positions her as the frontrunner of the race.

The telephone poll was conducted for her from among 500 likely registered voters by the Washington firm The Mellman Group. According to the results, Abraham leads the pack with 30 percent of the respondents choosing her as Philadelphia’s next mayor.

SuperPAC and super-endorsed candidates Anthony Williams and Jim Kenney were favored by 14 percent, followed by Nelson Diaz, 6 percent; Milton Street, 5 percent; and Doug Oliver 2 percent, according to The Inquirer.

“I was delighted that so many people find that my message and my experience resonates with them,” Abraham said.

When asked what has been key in getting her message across on the campaign trail, she said she is a trusted, fearless leader. “Very experienced, honesty and integrity, and tough. A tough person who knows how to get the job done from day one.”

So far the only official endorsement she has received is from Animal Advocates for Lynne, and her campaign is still doing a push to raise funds.

Abraham said is nice to have some endorsements, but it in end, its all about the people.

“The election is really about leadership and that is what the people want. The people of Philadelphia in general, and all of the constituent groups, they want a true leader. I feel very confident that the people want the leadership that I bring,” Abraham said.

That confidence, she said, goes hand-on-hand with job recognition, job satisfaction and  character.

“It comes from grassroots campaigns, not bought by any special interests groups like the large amounts of money being poured by special interests to fund other candidates,” Abraham said. “I think people are really disturbed and upset about that. My message is right to the people: Can’t be bought, not in anybody’s hip pocket, nobody’s mayor but the people’s.”
