Technology, among other things, has made AL DÍA possible.

Few know that 20 years ago, when the "desktop publishing" technology was the fashion, the birth of AL DÍA News Media was made much easier by an early version of a  "Pagemaker" program installed in one of the first personal computers Apple sold to the world

It was the then-famous MAC SE, which I bought in college to write my academic papers when studying for my master's degree in journalism at the University of Iowa.

Today, with much smaller computers, so small that they can fit in the palm of your hand, and another marvelous piece of software called the "web browser," technology is again enabling AL DÍA to take another step forward, impacting dramatically how we will deliver the news to you, dear reader.

Always ahead of the curve, AL DÍA is fully embracing the latest information technologies to continue delivering the high quality editorial content AL DÍA has been known for, not only in print, but also on the web, or on your tablet or mobile phone.

There is yet another "technology" we have been relying on, one that has made us unique through the 20 years of our existence as a news organization.

Driven by pure human ingenuity, owned and operated by professional journalists, each of them from the most diverse backgrounds, our unique news organization looks like the very multicultural society our nation is gradually becoming.

Men and women of all backgrounds work together around an editorial principle that remains unchanged since our foundation: To make America aware of its fastest-growing, and yet most misunderstood, and also most promising, segment of Americans.

By showcasing the fullness of the Latino experience in the United States, AL DÍA has become an exceptional American news media organization with a very meaningful purpose in the 21st century.

Our multi-platform news media organization fosters engagement with multiple audiences and, in the end, is driving a new American narrative.

We do it through a news site available in English and Spanish, a weekly print product, and English-language events which include political conversations, media panels, film screenings, and other ambitious content initiatives.

The content provided by AL DÍA across three platforms — print, web, and live events — actively impacts the lives of those who come across it.

AL DÍA is truly an American news media company, as it was also built from scratch here, in the most American of the traditions: Overcoming challenges with creativity and determination and transforming obstacles into opportunities.

It's been a long time since we started on 5th Street, in the heart of the Latino neighborhood of North Philadelphia with a single MAC SE.

Today, from Market Street, in the heart of the financial district in the cradle of America, we look with confidence at the obvious opportunities inherent in the most dramatic transformation of news media in a century.

Hernán Guaracao is the Founder & Chairman of the AL DÍA Foundation, and the Founder & CEO of AL DÍA News Media, Philadelphia's premier Latino News Media.
